HJC became part of the Ideal Boilers story when asked to support them in the development of their first smart thermostat and connected wireless heating devices. As well as the thermostat, new boiler transceivers, gateway and relay devices were required. At the heart of this project was ensuring the range shared a common, cohesive design identity that exuded superior quality and aesthetic qualities.
Concepts for the thermostat were presented early in the development phase and offered a range of different aesthetic options based on Ideal’s initial proposal. Emphasis was placed on the finish & trim details of the design to help bring a quality feel to the unit. HJC used a combination of 2D Sketching and photo-real CAD renders to present ideas and generate interest within Ideal’s marketing teams. HJC’s designers focused on creating a modern and clean design language that echoed the Ideal brand and reflected modern interior cues.
Translating this across the product range was crucial; HJC’s approach ensured this was achieved. Each unit needed to be considered to reflect the needs of both the installer and the consumer. HJC’s designers worked through every detail in the designs from the casings to the cable clamps, ensuring design intent was maintained and the end products met the requirements of the end users from all functional, ergonomic and aesthetic standpoints.
